Six Months Old!

Time is absolutely flying by - Thomas turned 6 months old on February 23!  With this milestone came several more firsts that I've got to update you on.  First came the crawling.  He actually started crawling backwards about a week before he was able to move forward at all.  It was slightly amusing for us to watch a child who could only move in reverse, but Thomas did not think it was funny.  He would intentionally try to crawl forward for a certain toy and just ended up pushing himself further and further from his goal.  The crawling forward came on slowly and started with an "army crawl", essentially he wasn't lifting his belly off the floor.  And then he realized that his belly had to leave the floor in order to really go anywhere, so he progressed to a push-up position.  This increased his upper body strength, but if you've ever tried to move forward while in a push-up position, it's not so easy.  Getting smarter every day, Thomas then proceeded to bunny hop.  At this point, all he had to realize was that he could move his legs independently.  He finally conquered the crawl just a few days ago and is slowly moving around the house all by himself!

Then came the usuals - sippy cups and solid food!  Thomas loves to drink water from a sippy cup and a "big boy" cup.

On his 6 month birthday, we offered Thomas his first solid food, rice cereal mixed with milk.  At first, Thomas loved the cereal and managed to make quite the mess eating it.  Really, his high chair is next to the dryer in the kitchen - cereal ended up on him, the highchair, me, and even on the dryer.  After a few days of eating cereal, he decided he wasn't really into it and began to refuse it.  Well, we decided to try and press ahead, offering him his first vegetable, green beans.  Big mistake.  Apparently, he takes after his parents and does not like vegetables.  Since then, the only solid food Thomas has even tried is a few spoonfuls of bananas.  Needless to say, we are still working out the kinks here and hoping Thomas will come around to enjoying "real" food!

Last but not least, Thomas has also learned the fine art of both sitting up and pulling up.  I swear, if he just had any sense of balance he would be running around!
